Aljur Abrenica Says ABS-CBN's Shutdown Is Beyond Him, And That 'Their Fight Is Their Fight'
On July 24, Aljur Abrenica answered observations made on him by those that said he wasn't very vocal about ABS-CBN's shutdown. According to the actor, he isn't like his younger brother Vin Abrenica who is a strong supporter of their home network.
Abrenica's statements come after the Committee on Legislative Franchises didn't give ABS-CBN a franchise renewal, leading to the closure of its network and other companies.
He explained, "Well, we have our own fight. Hindi naman sa hindi ako vocal... actually, pro-franchise po ako. Siyempre, that’s my mother network now. Marami rin silang naitulong sa akin. Pero, it’s beyond me. Ibig kong sabihin, their fight is their fight. Matagal na yung nangyayari. I don’t know the details... Ako, bilang isang artista, hindi ko alam. Ang alam ko lang, yung behind camera. So, I’m really looking forward, how I see this scenario is the opportunity talaga to cleanse, and the opportunity to get better as a network..."
"Every case naman na ganito, may opportunity to make everything better. Yun na lang ang tinitingnan ko. Para malaman niyo ang side ko, pro-franchise ako. Pero, it’s beyond me. May mas malalim pa kesa sa ipaglalaban ko sa franchise," he continued.
The actor made the statements during a Escape From Mamasapano Zoom conference with JC de Vera.
Abrenica's career began when he joined GMA-7's reality-based show StarStruck during its fourth season back in 2006. He won the content as the Ultimate Hunk.
In July 2014, Abrenica filed a petition at the Quezon City Hall of Justice for the rescission of his exclusive contract with GMA Network Inc. But, he finished this before he transferred to ABS-CBN.
Because of ABS-CBN's closure, the actor was asked if a GMA-7 comeback was in his cards. "Ako, open naman ako," he answered. "If doon ako pupunta sa path na ‘yon, but right now kasi, ang focus ko talaga is family, security nila, and whatever means that I can do, like, supporting my wife, studying other businesses…"
"So, right now, kaya tinanggap ko yung project na 'to is because passion ko talaga is acting. May goal talaga ako when it comes to the industry, pero kung kakailanganin niya yung network at nag-a-agree yung network, same sila, pati yung audience are asking na, why not? Pero, for now, ang masasabi ko, wala pa ako doon. Wala pa ako doon para kumatok pa sa network."
