Another Crazy Rich Asians Spin-Off Is Coming Soon

Crazy Rich Asians fans are in for a treat. While the sequel is still in development, we're going to get another spin-off based on Kevin Kwan's China Rich Girlfriend. This time, we'll have a story that will revolve around Astrid Leong Teo and her love affair with Charlie Wu.
The film is said to be written by Emmy-nominated producer and writer Jason Kim (known for shows like Barry, Love, and Divorce) and will retain Gemma Chan and Harry Shum Jr. in their signature roles.
Based in the Kwan books, Charlie Wu was the first love of Astrid and they happened to be formerly engaged. Astrid's parents, the crazy rich Asians that they are, intervened because they didn't think Charlie was that guy apparently. In the film, Astrid learns of her husband's affair (yes, she is newly single! Woop, Charlie!) and eventually runs into Charlie at Nick and Rachel’s engagement party.
The sequel, on the other hand, remains in the works too and is currently being written by Amy Wang. Kwan's book follows the stories of Astrid and Charlie and Rachel and Nick.
During its debut, Crazy Rich Asians took roughly $35.2 million home in a five-day span, and ended up grossing $238.5 million worldwide. The cast had a swell time, as well, having been nominated at the Screen Actor's Guild and Golden Globes all the while winning Best Comedy at the Critics Choice Awards.
If the, dare we say, franchise's past success gives us any indication, it's that things are about to get even crazier.
