With historical distortion dominating the times, Ateneo de Manila University’s Areté and Tanghalang Ateneo has set up a streaming production of ²Bayani: Isang Rock Opera Alay kay Andres Bonifacio online.

"²Bayani is also a celebration of defiance from a man who, though betrayed, imprisoned, and treated as a footnote to the revolution, clung to his desire to unite the Filipinos," Ateneo's description says.

Directed by Dr. Ricardo G. Abad, the production was shot from Areté’s Hyundai Hall and offers music and lyrics from Zosimo Quibilan, Jr. and Khavn. The musical features quite the ensemble, too, with indie-folk hero Bullet Dumas starring as Bonifacio. This is Dumas' first foray into theater. He is said to have been contacted by composer-filmmaker Khavn de la Cruz, who wrote the music for the play, together with Imo Quibilan.

Rounding out the cast are Tanghalang Pilipino’s Nanding Josef, Alyana Cabral, Larissa Buendia, Ali Figueroa, MC Dela Cruz, Greg Abelardo De Leon, Angelo Galang, Matt Gador, Gabo Tolentino, Pat Libao, Norvin De Los Santos, Meyanne Plamenio, Jam Binay, Nashvie Magracia, Lance Soliman, Pio Bagnol, Austin Gonzales, Michael D. Fernandez, Tara Jamora Oppen, and Jamie Papa.

The theatrical production can be viewed through KTX. Fans may also buy their tickets from Theaterfansmanila.com. ²Bayani will be streaming until April 23.
