Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston Wants To Play Walter White In The Spin-Off Movie, But There's One Problem

And it's quite a big problem

One of the biggest questions Breaking Bad fans have about the newly announced movie spin-off is whether or not it'll bring back Walter White.

News broke late on Wednesday that series creator Vince Gilligan is about to start production on a film called Greenbrier, which is either a prequel or a sequel set in the world of the Breaking Bad universe.

It didn't take long for Walter White actor Bryan Cranston to comment on the project, admitting on The Dan Patrick Show only a few hours after the announcement that he currently hasn't been asked to appear in the film. Damn.

"Yes, there appears to be a movie version of Breaking Bad," Cranston confirmed, before quickly clarifying: "But I, honestly have not even read the script. So I couldn't tell you."

The actor continued: "I have not gotten the script. I had not read the script, so there's a question of whether we'd even see Walter White in this movie! Think about that one."

Intriguingly, Cranston admitted that he was given a heads-up from Vince Gilligan that Greenbrier was in the works and has also been let in on a few hints about where it fits in the franchise's timeline.

"I would, absolutely [be in it]," he added. "It's Vince Gilligan. If Vince Gilligan asked me to do it, sure, absolutely. He's a genius. It's a great story, and there's a lot of people who felt that they wanted to see some sort of completion to some of these storylines that were left open.

"This idea, from what I was told, gets into at least a couple of the characters who were not completed as far as their journey."

Given that description, it would at least seem like Greenbrier takes place after both Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad—although we should probably take Cranston's comments with a grain of salt.

Summing up his feelings about Breaking Bad living on with or without out him, Cranston said: "I can't wait to see all those people again… even if I just come by to visit!"

Production on Greenbrier is expected to begin in New Mexico next month, so we should have more news on casting fairly soon.
