It isn't a very common practice yet here in the Philippines, but there's something uniquely appealing about the concept of a film concert. Put simply, it's a film screening in which the soundtrack is performed live, often to great emotional effect. Imagine, for example, watching Star Wars with John Williams and an orchestra playing through the film. No level of high-tech surround sound can match that.
And while we rarely get a chance to appreciate films this way, the next one happens to be a fitting choice. Next month, you can catch Luca Guadagnino's Call Me By Your Name set to live music, in Call Me By Your Name In Concert, featuring The Manila Symphony Orchestra.

The original soundtrack of Call Me By Your Name features the compositions of Ryuichi Sakamoto, John Adams, Erik Satie, Johann Sebastian Bach and Maurice Ravel. It also includes songs by The Psychedelic Furs, Franco Battiato, Giorgio Moroder, Loredana Bertè, Bandolero, Joe Esposito, F.R. David, and Sufjan Stevens, whose original song “Mystery Love” was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song. Filipino musicians will be performing these at Call Me By Your Name In Concert.
The movie's lush, sensuous depiction of a story of young love is, of course, perfect for the accompaniment of an orchestra. Plus, haven't you always dreamed of watching that peach scene to the magnificent tune of brass and strings? Yes. Yes you have.
Catch Call Me by Your Name In Concert on Sunday, October 28, 8:00PM at Samsung Hall, SM Aura. Early Bird tickets sold out quick, but you can still snatch up some regular tickets for P2,700 via Ticketworld.
