In both tech and smart home news, Grimes and Elon Musk have welcomed a second child. The new offspring, a girl, is named Exa Dark Sideræl Musk. For convenience sake, you can call her Y, which is the nickname her parents use. Actually, everyone in the household has a reference letter. E for Elon. C, which could be in reference to Grimes's birth name Claire, or, the speed of light. And X for X Æ A-Xii, naturally.

Grimes announced the new model of child in her Vanity Fair cover story, released on Thursday.

The announcement was a bit of a surprise, as Vanity Fair writer Devin Gordon heard the baby cry from upstairs, not unlike a rogue Alexa, during his sit down with the singer. He asked if there was a new prototype upstairs, to which Grimes said, "I’m not at liberty to speak on these things." After a bit of discussion, however, Grimes revealed the new release: a human girl.

According to Grimes, the couple debated for a while as to what the new model should be called. Other names in contention were Sailor Mars (an obvious Sailor Moon reference) and Odysseus Musk, which is admittedly a badass name. In the cover story, Grimes explains that while Y is the newest model of baby, both babies are useful in their own ways. X, who will be two this year, is already being prepped to be the next iteration of Musk. "I think E is really seeing him as a protégé and bringing him to everything and stuff," Grimes tells Vanity Fair. "X is out there. His situation is like that." As for Y, this is a significantly more secretive arrangement; a model whose kinks are still being worked out. (You know how colic goes.)

Eventually, the idea is that when Grimes and Musk move to Mars, both models of babies will have an open invitation to join the couple on the red planet. What the private model, Y, chooses, we may never know as she is not for public consumption. As Grimes put it, "The best situation here is me training the girl and him training the boy.”

Congratulations to the happy couple on what is sure to be regarded as a breakthrough in innovation.
