The creative duo behind Game of Thrones, David Benioff and DB Weiss, have signed an exclusive nine-figure deal with Netflix to create and produce brand new series and films for the streaming platform.

Despite rumours of their negotiations with other platforms, such as Amazon and Disney, over previous months, Benioff and Weiss have released a statement to confirm that “Netflix has built something astounding and unprecedented, and we’re honoured they invited us to join them." The deal is reportedly worth $200 million (around £165m).

Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s Chief Content Editor who secured the deal, said the company is “thrilled to welcome master storytellers”, and “can’t wait to see what their imaginations will bring to our members”.

However, somewhat predictably, the news has received mixed reactions on social media amongst some die-hard Game of Throne fans.

The aftermath of the final Game of Thrones season, in addition to the last-minute drop out from Comic Con, has caused many fans to lose faith with the producers.

Meanwhile, the time frame for their new releases remains to be seen. Benioff and Weiss currently have several projects underway, including a Star Wars trilogy for Disney, and so are unlikely to be set to work on anything for Netflix just yet.
