The final season of Game of Thrones will play out over six "feature-length" episodes rather than being made up of the more usual combination of 10 or so hour-long episodes, it's been revealed.

Iain Glen, who plays Ser Jorah Mormont, also told the Daily Express that the final season's events are based on the "six best scripts" the show has ever had.

"We all sat down for the read-through of six feature-length episodes. They took longer to film, cost more, and are more surprising," he said.

The average run time of a Game of Thrones episode has shot up in later seasons, with season seven's average of 63 minutes dwarfing the first season's 56 minutes and eight seconds. There was a near-feature-length episode at the end of season seven ("The Dragon and the Wolf" ran to 80 minutes, though if we're honest, you'd feel like you'd been cheated if you paid P250 for a film that short), but a season of full feature-length episodes is unprecedented.
