2017 has had its ups and downs, but one thing to be thankful for is the release of a plethora of stellar films from the likes of indie hits like Call Me By Your Name and The Florida Project to big studio surprises in the form of Thor: Ragnarok and War For The Planet Of The Apes

It's slightly disheartening, then, to learn that according to Forbes' annual round-up, the actor who pulled in the most money in 2017 isn't an indie-darling nor an envelope-pushing actor's actor, but solid, dependable Vin Diesel.

Yup, it seems the Fast and The Furious movie behemoth is still unstoppable, with the eight film in the franchise earning $1.6 billion in ticket sales.

Co-star Dwayne Johnson comes in at second place, while Gal Gadot is a welcome addition in third with $1.4 billion from Wonder Woman and the underperforming Justice League

Elsewhere, Emma Watson takes fourth place after savvy negotiating skills on Disney's live-action Beauty and the Beast remake, while homegrown sci-fi franchise stalwarts Daisy Ridley and John Boyega also feature.

1. Vin Diesel ($1.6 billion)

2. Dwayne Johnson ($1.5 billion)

3. Gal Gadot ($1.4 billion)

4. Emma Watson ($1.3 billion)

5. Johnny Depp ($1.1 billion)

6. Daisy Ridley ($1.08 billion)

7. Tom Holland ($888 million)

8. Chris Pratt ($864 million)

9. Chris Hemsworth ($845 million)

10. John Boyega ($815 million)

Place your bets now as to how many of the new Avengers film's 1000-strong cast will crack the top ten in 2018...
