These Are the Shows the World Devoured in 2017

At least on Netflix

If you've spent more Sundays than you'd care to admit this year scrolling endlessly through Netflix in the hopes of Something. New. Please, then don't worry, because the streaming giant (the scariest kind) has just released its end of year stats and with it, some ideas of what everyone else is (finally) clicking on.

Amongst other nuggets of information: 1 January was the biggest streaming day of the year; Mexico was the country with the most new members joining each day; 140 million hours were watched per day (1 billion hours per week) and the average member streamed 60 movies this year. And, most importantly, one member watched Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl 365 days in a row.

As you do.

As well as all that, they also revealed the most popular shows of the past 12 months, broken down into different categories: The Shows We Devoured ("shows so good they made us say 'just one more'"), The Shows We Savored ("shows so good we took our time to enjoy them"), and The Shows That Brought Us Together ("shows so good they're a family affair").

What this proves is that, along with all of you quite liking the second season of Stranger Things, Netflix has a potentially sinister amount of detail about our viewing habits.
