Netflix Is Rolling Out Its Shuffle Feature Pretty Soon

You'll finally be able to use shuffle play on Netflix soon. Back in August, we wrote about the streaming service testing out the feature. Now, it's here. If it seems familiar, that's cause it's been available to a select few for a while as it appeared on the login screen as Play Something or Shuffle Play.
The shuffle button randomizes movies and television shows on Netflix's library. According to a survey, it takes Netflix users nearly 18 minutes to choose what to watch. So, this feature should be a great help for indecisive streamers to find undiscovered gems.
"It's really working for us where our members can basically indicate to us that they just want to skip browsing entirely, click one button and we’ll pick a title for them just to instantly play," says Netflix COO and Chief Product Officer Greg Peters. "And that's a great mechanism that's worked quite well for members in that situation."
If our intel is correct, the feature doesn't just pull out a title from a mixed bag. It acts much like an algorithm that takes a user's viewing history and playlists into account.
We can't give Netflix all the credit for the feature. An online tool called Netflix Roulette has been acting as a manual shuffle button for the streaming service. We also found a petition on Change.org for the addition of a shuffle button from two years ago.
