Year 2021 witnessed the movement of several stars, writers, and directors to the Kapuso network. Among the big-name stars welcomed by GMA-7 with open arms were Bea Alonzo, John Lloyd Cruz, and Kim Atienza.

But, will there be more big-ticket stars joining the network in 2022?

This was the question asked during a virtual media conference on March 10, 2022, attended by GMA top executives—Senior Vice President for Entertainment Group Lilybeth Rasonable, First Vice-President for Program Management Joey Abacan, and First Vice-President for News and Public Affairs Nessa Valdellon. It was Rasonable who answered, “Yes. Pero hindi pa ma-a-announce... you will find out soon enough.”

Next question, does GMA-7 have any criteria for artists wanting to join the network? Rasonable said, “Star power, yung maraming following pero naghahanap din kami ng magbibigay ng excitement. Kahit up-and-coming na mga artists na makakadagdag sa excitement ng content sa GMA.”

She added that GMA-7 has been consistently grooming more talents via Sparkle (formerly GMA Artist Center). “We are doing a lot of efforts sa Sparkle to have our own, and that is so exciting that we are coming up with our own artists, pushing our homegrown artists. So aside from yung mga big names na maaaring lumipat sa GMA, meron din tayong bini-build-up on our own and will be creating platforms on them on television para i-watch sila.”

In 2021, GMA-7 also welcomed talents—such as directors and writers from ABS-CBN—on the creative side. Among them were director Jerry Lopez Sineneng and award-winning screenwriter Ricky Lee.

During the media conference, Rasonable admitted there is still a “vacuum” that needs to be filled by more creatives considering the never-ending demand for new content. She explained, “First of all, kaya rin nagkakaroon ng lipat—if you want to call it—is because may vacuum din, kumbaga kulang pa rin. Sa dami ng pinu-produce ng GMA, kulang pa rin ng writers, kulang pa rin ng mga direktor.

“Pre-pandemic, nagkakaubusan, and now that we produce ahead of time especially of these lock-ins, talagang nagkakaubusan, kahit artista. So, itong mga nadadagdag na mga writers and directors, they fill in a vacuum that we have." She hastened to add, "But they can only make things better for us even in terms of content kasi we are getting the good ones, really.

“We’re so happy that Ricky Lee is with us now, and I just cannot contain my excitement every time I listen to him. Talagang nakakadagdag siya nang malaki sa mga writers natin, even to the producers. All the other writers and directors that are coming in, I’m sure will bring in new perspectives in terms of how to attack a material. So exciting talaga na makakasama siya 'tapos I’m sure they will also learn a lot from those who were inside already of the network, magkaka-exchange. That can only make things better.”
