The wait before getting on an amusement park ride can be filled with childlike anticipation, real fear or mind-numbing boredom. If you're especially unlucky, it can even be a three-in-one experience. You could be eagerly waiting on line for a fondly remembered ride from your childhood, find that the rickety ride hasn’t been updated since you were eight, and then realize the wait’s so long you might not last until your turn because of an impending sunstroke. True story.

At 40, Ocean Park Hong Kong has figured that all out long ago. The theme park offers visitors a different three-in-one visitor experience, but here it’s a fun and convenient mix of entertainment, education and conservation. Convenient because there’s an app that allows you to check out the waiting times for different activities and skip the line at three of your choosing. Fun because pandas. Sleepy giant pandas. Cuddly red pandas.

Throughout the park, which was originally built to teach local kids about animals and the environment, dozens of trained staff are ready to share interesting facts on the southern koalas, red-necked wallabies and laughing kookaburras which call Ocean Park's 'Adventures in Australia' exhibit their home. Of course, any self-respecting water park also features an impressive aquarium, and the park also contains a North Pole underwater tunnel experience, penguins, and a dolphin show.

More water-related fun is in the works. In 2019 Water World, overlooking the ocean and boasting almost 30 attractions, including 2 wave pools and 9 dynamic and state-of-the-art water slides, is set to open. The view overlooking the bay and surrounding hills is absolutely stunning, too, and can currently be best enjoyed on a cable car ride.

Since Ocean Park has just turned 40, it’s keeping things fresh with different admissions packages enticing Filipino visitors to join the fun. A joint promotion with Enchanted Kingdom offers Enchanted Kingdom guests a 15-20% discount when purchasing Ocean Park’s admission tickets, and Philippine National Bank credit card holders will be able to enjoy a 12% discount on daytime admission.
