This Star Wars IX Theory About Snoke Connects to a Key Detail in the Prequel Trilogy

It also could explain why the villain is so ugly.

At this point, the future of Star Wars is uncertain. There's a lot riding on J.J. Abrams to create a satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga, and given the way fans react to anything Star Wars, not everyone is going to be happy. But if one popular theory ends up being true, fans who were angry about the abrupt death of Supreme Leader Snoke might get exactly what they wanted.

For years, fans have theorized that Snoke might be Darth Plagueis, a legendary Sith master first mentioned in Episode II. If you'll remember, as Palpatine was pushing Anakin Skywalker toward the Dark Side in The Clone Wars, he told the story of Darth Plagueis, "a Dark Lord of the Sith so powerful and so wise, he could use the Force to influence the midi-chlorians to create life. He had such a knowledge of the dark side, he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying." As Palpatine explains to Anakin, "Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew. Then his apprentice killed him in his sleep. Ironic. He could save others from death, but not himself."

In other words, Palpatine learned how to stop people from dying and killed his master. Or did he?

As many people have noted, Snoke is ugly as hell. He kind of looks like a corpse, huh?! Is it possible that Snoke is actually the zombie-like Darth Plagueis, who was able to use the Force to keep himself from dying after his apprentice Palpatine attempted to murder him?

If that's the case, let's consider some other recent rumors. In September, it was reported that Andy Serkis had canceled his appearance at Keystone Comic Con in Philadelphia at a time that happened to coincide with Star Wars IX. This, fans guessed, meant that he was secretly returning to film more scenes as Snoke. Meanwhile, this week, other rumors hinted that Matt Smith, who was cast in Star Wars IX, will be playing a young Palpatine in the movie.

With both of these rumors in mind, many fans have theorized that both Palpatine and Snoke will have key roles in Star Wars IX. This could include flashbacks to Palpatine studying with Darth Plagueis and/or a flashback to Palpatine attempting to murder his master. And if Snoke is indeed Plagueis, and knows how to cheat death, it's also possible that Snoke will be able to return from the dead for Star Wars IX.

Certainly, this would be the ultimate fan service that Star Wars trolls have come to crave.
