These Are the Cars and Watches in The Gray Man

What’s with super spies and their cars and watches?

These days, it doesn’t really matter what gun a super spy uses, but cars and watches are a different thing altogether. For James Bond, it’s the Aston Martin and Omega watch. John Wick had a 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 and a Carl F. Bucherer on his wrist. 

The latest spy and hit man to join the elite roster is The Gray Man, played in the Netflix movie by Ryan Gosling.

In the movie, Audi came in to supply four Audi models, including the all-electric Audi RS e-tron GT, Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron, Audi RS 7 Sportback and Audi R8 Coupe. The Gray Man is directed by The Russo Brothers, who also directed four films inthe Marvel Cinematic Universe, including Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, and both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

The Gray Man opened in select theaters globally last July 15 and was released worldwide via streaming on Netflix last July 22. In addition to Gosling, the cast includes Chris Evans (Lloyd Hansen), Ana de Armas (Dani Miranda), Jessica Henwick (Suzanne Brewer), Regé-Jean Page (Denny Carmichael), Wagner Moura (Laszlo), Julia Butters (Claire), Dhanush (Avik San), with Billy Bob Thornton (Donald Fitzroy), and Alfre Woodard (Margaret Cahill).

The fully electric Audi RS e-tron GT was driven by Sierra Six (Ryan Gosling) while the fully electric Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron was driven by Agent Dani Miranda (Ana de Armas).

The Audi RS 7 Sportback was featured in a car chase sequence with Agent Dani Miranda behind the wheel and the Audi R8 Coupé driven by Avik San (Dhanush).

Audi came up with a huge collaboration with Netflix, spanning 30 countries around the world, using Audi’s fully electric fleet for its global movie premieres as well as social and digital activations for fans to further immerse themselves in the world of The Gray Man.

Meanwhile, Gosling wears a TAG Heuer in the movie as he’s an ambassador for the brand. Gosling also showed up earlier this week for the film‘s UK premiere at the British Film Institute on London’s South Bank wearing a steel TAG Heuer Carrera 3 Hands. His co-stars Chris Evans, Ana de Armas and Rege?-Jean Page, and directors Anthony and Joe Russo also all wore TAG Heuer watches at the red carpet.

Meanwhile, TAG Heuer also organized a special media preview at Bangkok’s Central Embassy Exclusive Cinema. Some scenes of the movie were shot in Bangkok.

From car chases, to jumping off a burning airplane without a parachute or just simply out on a social dinner, Gosling’s TAG Heuer was a trusted timekeeper in the film; a very important tool in the spy trade that took all the punishment in style.

Netflix reported losing one million subscribers during the first half of the year, which is actually good news, as the streaming service projected losing two million subscribers by June of this year. Being half right isn’t so bad.

The company also lost over 60 percent in share price value, which wiped out some $70 billion in ist market capitalization. That’s bad news for its stockholders, but Netflix is still the world’s leading streaming entertainment service, with over 222 million paid memberships in over 190 countries.

Netflix is gambling big on The Gray Man, which cost about $200 million to make. This is the most expensive film the streaming company has made so far, or about the same as 2021’s Red Notice, which starred Ryan Reynolds, Gal Gadot, and Dwayne The Rock Johnson. There is speculation that Red Notice 2 is in the works after one of its main stars Reynolds said it was the biggest opening day in the history of Netflix.

Netflix prides itself from airing content without ads, so brand partnerships and strategic product placements are very important in providing additional revenues. Will movies like The Gray Man attract the much needed subscribers back? We‘ll soon find out.
