Miss Philippines Is Crowned First-Ever Miss Trans Global

Miss Philippines Mela Franco Habijan was named Miss Trans Global 2020 in its first ever virtual pageant Saturday night.
The pageant's website says “Miss Trans Global was conceived from past ideas and current life in isolation, 2020." It says its contestants are “trans and gender nonconforming people from all backgrounds to raise awareness on transgender and LGB issues around the world."
Habijan shared her joy in a Facebook post early this morning, accompanied by a photo of her family.
Readers may remember her as Erick Habijan, who made headlines when she ran for Marikina councilor in the 2016 elections with her campaign slogan "Bata, Bago, Bakla." She didn't win, but she remained in the public eye, as a writer and actress, and recently as a peanut butter entrepreneur.
Well, she's made the headlines again, and this time for being victorious.
Congratulations, Miss Trans Global!
