Don't go shouting it around, but John Krasinski has already started work on the follow-up to his surprise success horror film, A Quiet Place. Krasinski and his wife Emily Blunt starred in the film about a family evading monsters in a near-future dystopia by remaining deathly quiet.

He also wrote and directed the feature which went on to take $334.5m at the box office globally as well as earning rave reviews for the unbearable tension caused by its use, or lack thereof, of sound.

Though Krasinski initially turned down doing a follow-up, fortunately for fans he's changed his mind and is already - possibly at this very moment - penning a script for film which revisits the eerily silent world.

"That was my intention for the movie itself," Krasinski said Wednesday during Q&A at the Silver Screen Theatre in Los Angeles, explaining how he planned to leave the film as a one-off. "Then I had this small idea for a sequel, but I didn't think it would go anywhere. So, I said to the studio, 'Just go do the movie with somebody else.'"

"They heard some pitches, and I told [producer] Drew [Form] about this little idea," he added. "And he told me to think about it a little longer. And then I thought, 'This might really work.' So, I'm currently writing the sequel."

He also spoke about the idea he has to tell the backstory of the planet with no light where the sound-hunting creatures came from. Krasinski imagines they evolved into killing machines on this planet and then came to earth on a meteor.

"I have the whole backstory, I know exactly where they're from and what day and where it happened. But I want to only tell it on this board," he said.

That storyboard in his basement may never see the light of day, but A Quiet Place 2 is due to be released May 15, 2020
