Local indie films can be difficult to find once they stop showing in theaters, so it’s important to catch them while you can. Thankfully, after acquiring the rights to Mike de Leon’s Bayaning 3rd World, Solar Pictures has uploaded the iconic film to their Vimeo page. You can now watch it for free until July 29.

The movie is about two filmmakers who attempt to shed some light on the mysteries surrounding Jose Rizal’s last day on earth: particularly, the claim that he retracted his criticism of the Catholic Church as written in his novels Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo

In the process they interview significant figures in the hero’s life such as his mother Teodora Alonzo, his siblings, his lover Josephine Bracken, the priest who claims to have heard his retraction, and finally Rizal himself.

Described as “part-investigative documentary, part-satire,” the film features Joel Torre as Rizal, Ricky Davao and Cris Villanueva as the filmmakers, Daria Ramirez as Teodora Alonzo, Ed Rocha as Fr. Vicente Balaguer, and Cherry Pie Picache as Rizal’s sister Narcisa.
