Release the Whole Zack Snyder-Directed Episode of Colbert, You Cowards
Over the past few years, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert has been one of the most reliable late night series, delivering hilarious comedy along with sometimes sobering news. That last part in particular means there have been some dark moments, but Justice League director Zack Snyder isn't one to rest on laurels. He asked the important question: what if we made it darker?
On Wednesday night's show, Snyder appeared on Colbert and "directed" the seven minute Snyder Cut of the show. As Colbert himself points out, that means things are going to get grittier. That translated to a completely CGI'ed set, several knives thrown at or into Colbert, and of course a training montage to get the host bulked up to the same level of Snyder's hulking leading men. Unfortunately, not everything was attainable. "I think he actually lost muscle mass," Snyder says, bluntly. "He fills out his clothes like lentils fill out a sandwich bag."
Promoting his new Netflix film Army of the Dead, the Snyder cut of Colbert obviously had to have a at least one good zombie thrown in, with bandleader Jon Batiste filling in the role of the undead. (Fun fact: we almost had zombie sex in Army of the Dead. The man knows no creative bounds.)

Snyder also seemed to enjoy poking as much fun at himself as he did poking fun at Warner Bros, the studio behind his creatively disputed DC films. At one point, Colbert looks into the camera and says "Suck it, Warner Bros! Suck it!" to which Snyder follows up and says, "His words, not mine, but yeah... suck it, Warner Bros."
The segment had all the hallmarks of a Snyder film, with more blood per capita than just about any Snyder film we've seen, which is a success. And yes, the clip may have been about two minutes too long, but at least we were able to see Snyder's full vision come to life, you know?
