Ben Affleck Speaks Out Against Harvey Weinstein

Ben Affleck has spoken out against Harvey Weinstein in the wake of the ongoing sexual harassment scandal surrounding the studio mogul.

"I am saddened and angry that a man who I worked with used his position of power to intimidate, sexually harass and manipulate many women over decades," Affleck wrote in a Facebook post, which he later shared on Twitter. "The additional allegations of assault that I read this morning made me sick. This is completely unacceptable, and I find myself asking what I can do to make sure this doesn't happen to others." Affleck has a long history with Weinstein; his career breakthrough came with Good Will Hunting in 1997, which was produced by Weinstein and his company Miramax.

Affleck is the latest in a series of actors to speak out against Weinstein following the scandal, which began last Thursday with a New York Times investigation detailing allegations dating back three decades, from multiple women including actresses Ashley Judd and Rose McGowan. This morning, The New Yorker published an article detailing additional allegations, and in a separate Times article today actresses Gwyneth Paltrow and Angelina Jolie also accused Weinstein of harassment.

On Sunday, the board of The Weinstein Company voted to terminate Weinstein, effective immediately, “in light of new information about misconduct that has emerged in the past few days.” Weinstein has denied portions of the Times report through his attorney, Charles Harder, who has threatened to sue the paper for a report he claims is "saturated with false and defamatory statements."
