Heads Up Calvin and Hobbes Fans: Bill Watterson Is Back with 'Dark' Graphic Novel
Bill Watterson, the creator of the much-loved comic strip Calvin and Hobbes, is releasing a graphic novel later this year, his first big book project since the strip ended in the mid-1990s.
Collaborating with caricaturist John Kascht, Watterson wrote The Mysteries, which has been described as an “illustrated fable about what lies beyond human understanding.”

Here’s the description of The Mysteries on its Amazon page: “In a fable for grown-ups by cartoonist Bill Watterson, a long-ago kingdom is afflicted with unexplainable calamities. Hoping to end the torment, the king dispatches his knights to discover the source of the mysterious events. Years later, a single battered knight returns.”
Watterson is known to comic strip lovers everywhere for writing and illustrating Calvin and Hobbes, which follows the adventures of a six-year-old boy and his friend, a stuffed tiger. The strip premiered in 1985 and ended on December 31, 1995.
Since then, the notoriously media-shy Watterson has kept a low profile and have stayed out of the public eye, save for the occasional appearance at exhibitions and writing contributions to national publications.
According to Amazon, The Mysteries will be available starting October 10, 2023.
