Gavel & Block, the subsidiary brand of Salcedo Auctions, is staging a benefit auction for the benefit of International School Manila's Vicky SyCip Herrera (VSH) Filipino scholars.

The aptly titled benefit is a combined effort between Gavel & Block and International School Manila (ISM). It features works by National Artists, international masters, leading Filipino artists, as well as artisanal furniture and design pieces. Some of the pieces from the lot were donated by Salcedo Auctions' clients, ISM parents, or the artists themselves.

The highlight of the sale is an untitled mixed media painting by abstractionist Romulo Olazo, an oil on wood by Ang Kiukok from 1973, and Deco Deconstruction by Ronald Ventura, which was donated by the artist himself. Rare documented lithographs by Salvador Dali and Henri Matisse and Filipiniana maps by Pedro Murillo Velarde, Rigobert Bonne, and Jean Francois La Perouse will also be offered in the sale. Pieces donated by ISM alumni and parents include embroidered pillows by Inigo Elizalde, footstools using Tânalak fabric by Maricris Floirendo-Brias, and an acrylic on canvas painting by Alan SyCip. The fine arts seniors of ISM also donated works from their final assessment exhibition to contribute to the fund.

The VSH Filipino Scholarship at ISM was established as a tribute to SyCip Herrera's contribution as guidance counselor and 38-year-long service to the school. According to ISM, "[potential scholars] all pass through an elaborate selection process involving standardized assessment tests, essays, and psychological evaluations as well as a comprehensive means test to ascertain the family's financial circumstances. Since 1967, our Filipino Scholarship Program has changed the lives of over 150 students—and often the lives of their families as well."

Several of ISM's scholars have gone to top colleges, universities, and institutions around the world such as Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Columbia, Cornell, and Princeton, among others. Through the help of ISM's scholarship fund, they've become entrepreneurs, humanitarians, lawyers, doctors, and architects.

Former ISM scholar Dominic Galicia credits the school for helping him discover his dream to be an architect.

The sale will commence on Saturday, May 5, 2:00 p.m. at The Conservatory of The Peninsula Manila.
