'Sansó: Prized and Personal' Unlocks a Decade of Rare Juvenal Sansó Interviews

Sansó: Prized and Personal, a 464-page hardbound publication from Fundacion Sansó, has been released and is now widely available. It is a definitive volume on Presidential Medal of Merit awardee Juvenal Sansó, offering an unparalleled look into his life and legacy.

The book features over 600 full-color images of Sansó’s artworks, many of which have never been photographed or published before, making it not only an essential read for art enthusiasts but also a crucial reference for scholars and collectors. It serves as a visual archive of Sansó’s prolific career—from his celebrated Brittany landscapes to his defining European Black Period.

What sets Sansó: Prized and Personal apart is its commitment to revealing the man behind the masterpieces, largely through his own words. The volume brings together a decade’s worth of rare and intimate interviews with Sansó, conducted by leading cultural voices including Ray Albano, Cid Reyes, Ambeth Ocampo, and Thelma Sioson San Juan. These conversations, many previously inaccessible, provide firsthand insight into Sansó’s creative philosophy, his evolution as an artist, and the lived experiences that shaped his practice. The book also features a comprehensive timeline of Sansó’s life and work, authored by art historian Reuben Ramas-Cañete, Ph.D., with Matthew Lopez.

Sansó’s works remain deeply coveted, and attesting to this are written reflections from nine distinguished collectors. These contributors—including former Senate President Miguel Zubiri, Pepper Teehankee, Eliot and Cherry Maguan, Raffy Simpao, Jack Teotico, Jeffrey V. Dayrit, Jr., and Marlon and Marissa Sanchez—blend their personal narratives with what goes into buying and collecting a Sansó.

Fundacion Sansó director Ricky Francisco notes that the book is "unlike any book we have produced," emphasizing that it reveals Sansó through "multiple, interlocking perspectives: the artist in his own words, the artworks in their fullest range, the scholars who have studied him, and the collectors whose lives have been touched by his art."

Sansó: Prized and Personal was completed shortly after Juvenal Sansó’s passing on March 28, 2025. It is available at Fundacion Sansó, both online and on-site at 32 V. Cruz Street, Sta. Lucia, San Juan. It is open from Monday to Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
