This Filipino Artist Ran Out of Paint. So He Used Sharpies

Concepcion started painting with Sharpie pens when he couldn’t go out to buy art supplies because of the pandemic.
“While cleaning my work room, I found a set of gel pens that was given to me a few years back by Janis McGeehan. I also found old illustration boards that have some sketches on it,” said Concepcion.
“The black side was empty, so I started experimenting on negative space drawing, meaning you draw the highlights first.”
Up close, Concepcion’s portraits look messy, but from afar, you see the order and mastery in the strokes.
“I call it chaotic order, because the portraits are very messy up close but have a strong likeness to the characters when you look at them from a distance,” said Concepcion.
It takes up to six hours and a lot of ink for Concepcion to finish one portrait.
