Apparently, World Emoji Day is a thing, and apparently, that thing is today. In its honor, Apple has announced the introduction of more than 70 new emoji characters for our iPhones, Apple Watches, Macs, and other devices, to be bundled in a software update coming "later this year."

The new emoji are based on Unicode 11.0, the latest approved set of characters from the Unicode Consortium, which is a group that, among other things, designs all things in the emoji language.

In addition to better representation for people with red hair, curly hair, or no hair at all, lobsters, mangos, and moon cakes are finally getting the recognition they deserve as well. There's even a surrounded-by-hearts-and-joy face that will come in handy for all of the young lovers out there.

When it arrives, the update will be free for users of iOS 12, so make sure you're up to date, especially if you hate words. Happy txt-ing.
