Fast internet is no longer a myth

It's a necessity, not a luxury.

Fast internet is no longer a myth

It’s not a stretch to claim that the world runs on the internet nowadays. People rely on it to do their business, receive their news, interact with the rest of society, and even do their grocery shopping. With so much of everyday life conducted online, to be disconnected from it can lead to countless setbacks in the real world. It’s become increasingly obvious then that having a speedy and dependable internet service is less a luxury solely for the privileged but more of a utility that must be accessible to the masses.

A little more than 40% of the entire population of the Philippines—which peaks at above one hundred million—use the internet. Despite how impressive that number may seem to be, many Filipinos still believe that fast, reliable internet is a luxury only the wealthy can afford.

The government has taken action to rectify this. The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) was created to promote the importance of information and communications technology in the country and to address the problems of, as well as upgrade, the existing network infrastructure. Along with the establishment of the DICT comes the promise of free Wi-Fi in nearly all public areas across the country.

The country's leading internet service providers (ISPs) have also launched their own plans to improve the country’s internet service. In a bid to better provide the public affordable and high-speed internet, PLDT Home expanded its Fibr optic network to 3,000 locations, reaching over 2.5 million homes across the country. Thanks to their aggressive roll-out campaign, PLDT Home Fibr now has the widest coverage in the Philippines. Whether you're in Laoag or Sorsogon, El Nido or Tagbiliran, Bacolod or General Santos, you can count on Fibr to deliver unlimited broadband of 20 Mbps up to 1 Gbps internet speeds, with equal downloading and uploading speeds.

With prices as low as P1899, Fibr makes fast internet no longer an exclusive perk and instead something every man can afford. With Fibr, the days of breaking the bank just to get a speedy connection can be deemed over.
