5 Android Phones for Apple Defectors

The lowdown on the best out there
Comments

OnePlus 5T

Offering a premium full-screen experience as near-as-dammit to the Apple X but at half the price, the Chinese upstart has launched one of 2017's most impressive devices. There's a 6in full HD+ AMOLED screen, front (16MP) and dual rear (16MP+20MP) cameras and a great fingerprint scanner. It's also thinner, lighter and narrower than many rivals, and (shock!) retains a headphone jack.

Google Pixel 2 XL
Google has slimmed down its bezel, extended its display and upped the battery life of its new 6" device, which also officially boasts the world's best-rated smartphone camera. Also on offer: front-facing stereo speakers, OLED display and a fingerprint sensor.

BlackBerry Motion
BlackBerry's back. Its old-school keyboard-packing KEYOne created a real buzz at the beginning of 2017, and was aimed squarely at the high-end businessman. This touch-screen successor is pitched mid-range but still has much to recommend it. A nano-diamond anti-scratch coating, a whopping 32+ hours of battery life and BlackBerry's virtual secure, encrypted zone only you can access.

Huawei Mate 10
Available in three versions: the Huawei Mate 10, Huawei Mate 10 Pro and Porsche Design Huawei Mate 10, all have Android Oreo, are powered by a chip dubbed the 'AI processor' (designed for 'AI-related tasks') and feature dual-camera set-ups from Leica. The Porsche Design version is a thing of beauty, but it ain't cheap (P84,000).

LG V30
For those of us prone to consuming, and creating, loads of media on our phones, this has a tonne of powerful features like high-quality DAC for audio playback, hi-fi video recording and a wide-aperture camera, similar to DSLR cameras. There's 16 video presets themed around movies ('noir', 'thriller', 'documentary'), and it has been designed to perform especially well in low-light.
