We're (finally) almost done with 2021. But before facing the new year, there's our yearly tradition of freaking out over Pantone's Color of the Year. You're in luck, too, as the institute has just picked out its choice for 2022.

Introducing the shade you'll probably see everywhere for 2022: Very Peri (or if you want to get technical PANTONE 17-3938). It reminds us a little of 2018's Color of the Year, Ultra Violet, but Very Peri is different in that it's a more "dynamic periwinkle blue hue with a vivifying violet red undertone." The keyword being periwinkle.

Very Peri is a brand new color for Pantone, too. According to the institute, it was important to create a whole new color as it brings fresh energy and the red-violet-infused blue hue "highlights the expansive possibilities that lie before us."

"As we move into a world of unprecedented change, the selection of PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri brings a novel perspective and vision of the trusted and beloved blue color family," said Leatrice Eiseman, the Pantone Color Institute's executive director. "Very Peri displays a spritely, joyous attitude and dynamic presence that encourages courageous creativity and imaginative expression."

Can Pantone's Color of the Year work for your wardrobe? We say yes. If you're not that keen on periwinkle, maybe try the hue as an accent for an accessory or tonal as part of a clothing piece?
