Ingredients

  • 1 oz. Tequila Herradura Silver
  • 1/2 oz. BenRiach "Curiositas" 10 Year Old Peated Single Scotch Whiskey
  • 1/2 oz. Grand Marnier
  • 3/4 oz. fresh squeezed lemon juice
  • 3/4 oz. fresh squeezed lime juice
  • 1/2 oz. agave nectar
  • 1 pinch of salt

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice.
  2. Shake and strain into a coupe glass.
  3. Garnish with a dehydrated citrus fruit of your choice.

There are endless ways to craft a margarita. Whether you prefer yours salty, slightly sweet, a little spicy, or smoky, the quality of the final product that's poured into your glass depends on one thing: the tequila.

Tequila Herradura Silver has notes of citrus, cooked agave, and vanilla—natural flavors with a smooth finish that pair nicely with your most creative margarita variations.

Not sure where to start? Definitely go with Horseshoe Margarita: It's two parts Tequila Herradura Silver, one part freshly squeezed lime juice, and agave nectar to your liking. Consider it your new go-to original margarita recipe.

Ready to heat things up? Use the Horseshoe as a base and throw in some pleated scotch whiskey (trust us) for a controlled level of smoke that won't drown out the tequila. Because as much as we love an original margarita, adding a smoky flavor is what really takes it to the next level.

A Little Background

So, how does one land on scotch whiskey in a margarita? Using wood chips or even Mezcal to create the "smoky" aspect in a cocktail can actually overpower a margarita, resulting in losing the taste of the most integral part—the tequila itself.

To avoid this cocktail faux pas, add BenRiach Curiositas (a pleated scotch whiskey with stone fruit, honey, and spice) for a nice, controlled level of smoke without compromising the natural taste of Tequila Herradura Silver.
