Ely Buendia Says: No, the Eraserheads Aren’t Performing at Game 2

Game 2 of the UAAP Men's Basketball Finals will now have to be regular-sized epic, not epic epic.

The University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons battle the Ateneo De Manila Blue Eagles in Game 2 of the UAAP men’s basketball championship on Wednesday, December 5. Naturally, people are on edge, especially students and alumni of both schools.

But excitement about the game got turned up to 11 when musician Raimund Marasigan, one-fourth of legendary Pinoy band Eraserheads, posted a video on Twitter purportedly showing his old bandmates practicing a song before the big game.

Marasigan captioned the video: “praktis before game 2.”

The video clearly shows bassist Buddy Zabala and guitarist Marcus Adoro jamming the song “Minsan” along with a third person, whose face we can’t see. This third guy has blond hair, leading most people to speculate that it is, in fact, Eraserheads frontman Ely Buendia, who has been sporting blond locks for months.

The problem is, it’s not Ely.

Buendia himself posted a series of tweets debunking the news that the band—at least the band as we know it with all four of the original members—are reuniting to perform ahead of Wednesday’s game.

He even speculated that the other three members are performing with the unidentified blond guy for a possible collaboration.

Buendia, who now plays in other bands including Apartel and runs an independent record label called Offshore Music, even took a swipe at the guy who took the video, who we presume is Marasigan.

Yes, for a moment there we genuinely thought the band—all of whom attended UP—would make an appearance at the historic UAAP basketball finals. But it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen. Oh well.
