Like clockwork, Filipino Twitter has taken to the virtual streets to celebrate Philippine Independence Day. Since 2009, Pinoys have, er, reinvented history with tales passed down in our second language: memes.

The hashtag #rp612fic was started by the creative writing community, rallied by Paolo Chikiamco in particular, in order to engage in a discussion about alternative historical narratives.

Year after year, these short Tweet-length stories invaded the Twitterverse. And while they might not reveal the most objective truths, but they also house some of the most ambitious crossovers in history, proving that the Filipino is truly worth tweeting for.

For Araw ng Kalayaan 2018, we welcome back the the angst of Liza Soberano’s sinigang, the Avengers that didn’t make the final cut, the signing of the Jollibee treaty, and the antics of the Philippines Nine-Nine.

Happy Independence Day, fellow Filipinos! We all deserve this.
