Study Shows Filipinos Are Most Concerned About Security in the World

Global information technology company Unisys has released its latest security index report, which studies consumer concerns. For 2020, the company noted that several nations' priorities have shifted due to the coronavirus outbreak, but the Philippines' remained relatively unchanged.

The Philippines is the most concerned country when it comes to security followed by India and Chile. Filipinos are most concerned about Internet security and personal security. As the survey was taken during a global health crisis, Unisys also reports that the Philippines was currently most concerned about families' health as compared to other countries, which were worried about economic stability.

An interesting result of the survey this year was that the Philippines, along with Brazil and Chile, had a notable increase in financial security concerns (bank card fraud and financial obligations). According to the index, this could be related to local political contexts.

Another observation by Unisys was more about financial and Internet security as more people are currently working and shopping from home. The largest risk areas include finance and the Internet, specifically identity theft, phishing scams, and fraud.

"There is a level of apathy and a lack of awareness when it comes to securing the home office environment. In my conversations with CISOs, they’re saying that when they're testing their own employees at home now, they're seeing double the failure rates on their security tests than they saw pre-COVID," says Unisys chief information security officer Mathew Newfield.

With this, Unisys advises consumers to stay safe by updating passwords, ignoring strange calls and e-mails, verifying hyperlinks, and adding security hardware.
