Grab Promises Customers Detailed Breakdown of Fares for Each Trip

Greater transparency among commitments made to regulators to win approval for merger with Uber

Grab passengers will be able to receive a clear and detailed breakdown of their fares by the end of the month, Grab Philippines Country Head Brian Cu said in a press conference August 10, Friday.

Welcoming the Philippine Competition Commission’s (PCC) approval of the Grab-Uber merger, Cu assured passengers that aside from providing fare breakdowns, they will also keep the fares within reasonable range as part of their voluntary commitments to the PCC.

“Grab will ensure provision of trip receipts with clear fare breakdown per trip as part of our commitment for transparency to our consumers. Grab shall also ensure to keep fares within reasonable price range, aligned with the approved LTFRB (Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board) structure,” he said.

The receipts will include details on surge pricing, distance and time components of the whole fare. At present, only a select few are able to receive this kind of receipts as Grab has not yet fully rolled out the service. But Grab promised it will be available for all passengers by the end of August.

Also part of Grab’s voluntary commitments to the PCC are the improvement of their driver acceptance rate and overall trip allocation rate. Cu said they plan to address this by continuing their Better Trips: 100 days campaign that they launched last May 8.

Part of the campaign is providing drivers with activities and a rewards program to enhance their service quality. An example is Ka-Grab rewards, which increases drivers’ share of fare revenues up to 88 percent from the usual 80 percent.

“That’s (improving acceptance rates and lowering cancellation rates) been achieved. We just have to do a bit more and experiment and optimize to boost performance so we can further improve our acceptance rates. But it’s not impossible,” Cu said.

“We’re having a hard time because of all the regulations, but we will be able to optimize still,” he added.
