If you’re one of the lucky few, you’re about to embark on a four-day weekend vacation, or better yet, you’re already long gone and enjoying your sweet time away from work. Holy Week, while mainly a time for reflection and prayer by Catholics, has become a time for vacation, too.

This year, it appears more Filipinos are heading overseas for a quick respite from the summer heat. Online booking platform Agoda has revealed the four international cities preferred as Holy Week destinations by Filipinos.

That’s double the number of foreign locations recorded two years ago, when only Tokyo and Hong Kong were on the list of Filipinos’ top 10 destinations for Holy Week. See infographic below.

The data was based on bookings made by Filipinos on Agoda’s platform from April 14 to 21.

This year, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Taipei, and Seoul emerged as some of the top destinations. It's the first time the four cities have entered the top 10. However, similar to the past two years, many Filipinos are still inclined to do staycations at nearby hotels, as Manila remains the number one destination for Holy Week.

“Given Pinoys’ strong familial ties, spending a week of contemplation, introspection, and reflection with loved ones only seems fitting,” Agoda said in a statement.

Agoda is a Singapore-based online travel booking platform established in 2005. It is now available in 53 cities across more than 30 countries.
