Ikea Philippines Will Be Available to Shop Online Ahead of the Store's Opening. Here's Everything You Need to Know
The rumors of Swedish-based IKEA opening a Philippine store have been circulating since 2017. From announcements in the coming years to exciting updates, we've gotten to know more about the highly anticipated launch of IKEA Philippines. Here's everything we know so far.
IKEA Philippines will be available to shop online.
Ahead of the store's opening, IKEA has announced that it is bringing all the things we love online soon. "The company is bringing Swedish home furnishings and meatballs to millions more people in the coming year as it enters both Mexico and the Philippines, with web shops opening up months before the physical stores in both countries," the Swedish furniture brand said during a report on Southeast Asia sales revenues.
In fact, the IKEA Philippines website has already launched sans online shopping. The site opened in 2018, with many guessing that it would serve as a countdown for the pre-opening activities or an online catalog for when the store opens. Though both are pretty cool, getting to finally shop IKEA online without heavy duties and with delivery is even better.
So far, no dates have been mentioned, but IKEA Philippines has said in the past that they will offer e-commerce delivery to the Greater Manila Area.
It will be the largest IKEA store in the world.
The planned space at the Mall of Asia complex will be 65,000 square meters. (That's as big as 150 basketball courts, FYI.) The two-level shopping area will be the same size as other IKEA stores, but the overall size is bigger due to added facilities such as the store’s warehouse, e-commerce facility, and integrated call center.
Additionally, the store will have an inventory of about 9,000 items. All bearing the IKEA brand philosophy of creativity, functionality, and sustainability, the choices in this store will be massive. We hope they sell the Jon Snow IKEA cape.
The store will have everything you love about IKEA.
The highly anticipated store will have a full-service restaurant with the Swedish furniture brand's famous meatballs. Yes. Meatballs, glorious meatballs. Plus, the store will be fully family-friendly with a kids' play area equipped with an indoor playground. While the adults shop, kids can have fun, too.
It will be located near the SM Mall of Asia.
There hasn't been a groundbreaking ceremony yet, but the location is slated to be right in front of SMX Manila, beside the MOA Arena. This makes sense because IKEA Philippines is made possible through the partnership of Ikano Pte, Ltd, the owner and operating company of IKEA in Southeast Asia, and the SM Group of Companies.
IKEA Philippines will open by 2021.
In 2019, Swedish ambassador Harald Fries had been quoted as saying that IKEA was planning to open its first Philippine store by 2020, though he declined to reveal any further information. According to sources, the target date was in early 2020.
The opening has been delayed, however, with the Swedish furniture and homewares chain citing "construction adjustments" as the reason. In an interview with ABS-CBN, IKEA Southeast Asia market development manager Georg Platzer said, "Whilst the building is taking great shape on the skyline, as can be the case with mega construction projects, the timeline is adjusted and firmed up as the project moves along. There have been changes to the schedule and the opening date will be in 2021."
