Leonardo DiCaprio, The Rock And Other Hollywood A-Listers' Salaries Have Been Revealed

There are a few surprising names

Today's Hollywood A-listers aren't earning nearly as much as their nineties counterparts, but their mammoth paychecks will still make you wince.

According to Variety, the list of actors currently earning the highest fees for single films includes the obvious (Leo DiCaprio, Dwayne Johnson, Vin Diesel), the slightly less obvious (Ethan Hawke) and the genuinely-thought-they'd-stopped-making-films-not-about-pandas (2004's Jack Black).

Variety reports that top earner Daniel Craig's payday for Bond 25 is, aptly enough, reported to be $25 million, though the only other Brit to feature on the list is Tom Hardy. He's set to make about $7 million from Venom.

Fees are down from the glory days of the nineties and noughties, when Johnny Depp could demand a $35 million salary for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

The gulf between the highest paid men and highest paid women, as a Forbes article showed last September, clearly isn't being corrected as quickly as hoped. Forbes had the highest paid woman in Hollywood, Emma Stone, at number 15 on their list of the highest earning stars, and Variety's list shows women being squeezed out of the list by male stars too.

Anne Hathaway ($15 million for Barbie in 2020), Jennifer Lawrence ($15 million for Red Sparrow), Sandra Bullock ($10 million for Minions, incredibly), Emily Blunt ($8 million to $10 million for Jungle Cruise in 2019) and Bryce Dallas Howard ($8 million for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) are the only women in the top 20 listed by Variety.

Plus, Bryce Dallas Howard is reported to be making $2 million less than her co-star Chris Pratt on the same film.

There are reminders, too, that if you hook a big star then you're not just getting a person to turn up, do a few lines, punch a couple of evil idiots and toddle off to the trailer. The Rock's $22 million fee for Red Notice includes $1 million for social media promotion to his 12.9 million Twitter followers, 58 million Facebook followers and 105.7 million Instagram followers.

The other big take-home is that Robert Downey Jr pocketed $10 million for roughly 15 minutes on screen in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Extremely tidy.

There's a little room for expansion on these figures too, as actors who reckon they're in for a massive hit might choose to defer part of their salary in return for a percentage of the profits.
