Lyceum Has a Whole University Course Dedicated to Esports
Lyceum of the Philippines University, in partnership with Tier One Entertainment, is offering a four-year degree program focused on esports.
Founded by Tryke Gutierrez and Alodia Gosengfiao, Tier One Entertainment is an esports organization that manages esports streamers including Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League Philippines team Blacklist International. Clearly, they have a thing or two to teach about the industry.
First things first: despite the name of the course, it's not going to be filled with classes on professional gaming or streaming 101. Instead, the program will teach behind-the-scenes stuff like business development, organizational management, and administrative aspects of esports with specialization tracks like esports management and game design, development.
"For esports management track, it's going to be something talaga for esports practitioner on the back end," Gutierrez said. "It's going to help you na maging prepared for team ownership, broadcast, yung mga talagang nasa likod."
After earning a degree, esports management graduates can go become team owners, sales managers, marketing executives, esports agents, business development managers, project managers, and other related jobs. While game design and development graduates can explore the industry as game designers, game testers, and quality assurance specialists.
