Two Michael Jordan Rookie Cards Just Obliterated Auction Records by Selling for $738,000 Each
A pair of 1986 Michael Jordan rookie cards just sold for $738,000 (approximately P35.4 million) each, breaking auction records in the process. The sale took place through auction house Goldin Auctions, which specializes in sports collectibles such as sports cards, game-used items, autographs, and more.
The two cards are graded Gem Mint PSA 10, which means they're virtually perfect with no creasing and staining. This sale, specifically, has piqued the interest of collectors as the value of the cards jumped more than $500,000 since December. In recent months, two similar cards sold for $217,200 and $211,560. In 2019, the value of a Michael Jordan rookie card was $32,000.
Trading cards, both vintage and modern, have greatly increased in value in recent years. Goldin Auctions founder Ken Goldin is pretty amazed at the turnaround of interest.
In a statement, Goldin said: "I've been collecting cards and memorabilia for my whole life and I've never seen as much interest in the hobby. Long-time collectors have seen the value of their items soar and new collectors have rushed in because they view the hobby as not only fun but also a valuable investment."
Other notable items in the record-breaking lot was a Mickey Mantle card that sold for $1,605,150 (approximately P77.1 million), as well as an Anthony Davis card that sold for $1,045,500 (approximately P50.2 million).
