New Bridge Will Make Waiting at NAIA More Tolerable

Just walk away.

Far away, yet so close. Living in Metro Manila, with its near constant traffic gridlock, you have to plan out your days in advance. If you’re going to Makati, stay in Makati. If your last meeting is in Q.C., might as well spend the evening there until traffic eases up. But even then, places which are nearby can take forever to get to.

There’s a new mall right across the street? Sweet. Until you realize there’s no pedestrian crossing that’ll allow you to get there in two minutes. Instead you jump in the car, thinking you get there in a jiffy, and, voila, twenty minutes later you’re still stuck in traffic. And don’t get us started on trips to the airport, but we’re getting carried away here.

What we’re trying to say is, it would be nice if someone built things to make trips more convenient. But, since fixing traffic for good in Manila is a tall task, a great start would be to connect places which are already close to each other using elevated walkways or link bridges.

Thankfully, life’s about to get easier, at least if you’re going to or coming back from NAIA Terminal 3. Opening this month, Runway Manila, an enclosed, fully airconditioned and easily accessible pedestrian link bridge will connect Terminal 3 to Newport City. Of course, it’ll have elevators and moving walkways to speed things along, so you can escape the airport as fast as possible.

Instead of being stuck for an hour in the terminal area, why not walk over to Newport City in just a few minutes and catch a cab or City Link bus from there. Or, you could stick around Resorts World and make it an evening. It’s also worth considering if you’re a traveler on a long stopover and want to pop out for a little stroll, or you’re staying in Newport City and happen to be late for your flight.

The 220-meter long project was financed by Alliance Global Group for P1.5 billion.
