With the holidays fast approaching and people all over the Metro making plans, it's a foregone conclusion that roads are congested. One of the many reasons why Metro Manila's traffic continues to be frustratingly bad is the tendency for drivers to park illegally, often along major roads that are always busy. But luckily for you, the Metro Manila Development Authority has reportedly issued a regulation that's meant to make stubborn drivers think twice before parking wherever they please. This December, illegal parking violation fines were raised from P200 to P1,000 and P500 to P2,000 for both attended and unattended vehicles, respectively.

A violator could receive up to two violation tickets in a day. The second ticket will be issued if the vehicle obstructing the road is not moved after three hours. If left unattended, the violator could be fined up to P4,000 and the vehicle may also be subjected to towing.

Those idling by no-parking spaces "to pick someone up" may be issued a violation, too, according to the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) regulation. The regulation is aimed at instilling discipline among motorists.

These higher fines for the violations were approved by the 16 city mayors and one municipal mayor from the cities that comprise Metro Manila.
