There are things that we did in the past that we can't get away with today: calling Pluto a (non-dwarf) planet, Mickey Rooney's exotic Asian photographer in Breakfast at Tiffany's, all the jokes in Rush Hour 1. Political correctness wasn't a thing back then and "-shaming" wasn't in anyone's vocabulary. You could offend and use it for laughs, for sales, for anything.

Here are some terribly politically incorrect ads from when we didn't really know any better.

What is the story here? Here we have a plus-sized woman (comedienne Dely Atay-atayan) awkwardly watching TV on a stool, but that's okay because she has mosquito coil to keep her comfortable. That the coil is named "Elephant" is just a coincidence.
