Here's the Safest Place to Survive a Zombie Apocalypse, According to Science

...and it's not where you think.

If a zombie apocalypse actually happened, there would be several things to consider. At the top of the list, however, would be where to bunker down for maximum safety. Zombie flicks have taught us that shopping malls would provide great shelter and supplies... but it could also go to shit in a minute. Underground shelters are the best for security, but it also has plenty of cons.

So, where should you actually head? Researchers from Cornell University have figured it all out. According to them (AKA science), the Northern Rocky Mountains in Montana or in Canada would be ideal for numerous reasons.

One is that a city outbreak would take months to reach the mountains. It would gradually spread through the city, suburbs, and then, eventually, rural communities. The local equivalent of the Northern Rocky Mountains would be the many hiking spots near Manila. Good thing we have several around.

"Given the dynamics of the disease, once the zombies invade more sparsely populated areas, the whole outbreak slows down—there are fewer humans to bite, so you start creating zombies at a slower rate," says lead author Alex Alemi.

The researchers studied how viruses spread, as well as how a fictitious zombie plague could start to come up with that answer. Still, humanity is still pretty doomed in the event of an actual zombie apocalypse. Better start building the underground bunker in a mountainous region, stat.
