Tired of paying a premium every time you leave a parking lot? If yes, you're not alone. Apparently, some lawmakers are sick of it, too.

Senator JV Ejercito has filed a bill seeking to regulate the parking fees of shopping malls and other commercial establishments. Dubbed the Parking Space Regulation Act of 2018, the bill aims to standardize parking rates to the following:

Parking Space Regulation Act of 2018

1| The standard parking fee will be P40 for the first eight hours, and an additional P10 per succeeding hour.

2| There will be a one-time fee of P100 for overnight parking.

3| There shall be a 30-minute grace period for parkers.

Probably just as important is that the bill would prohibit establishments from invoking a waiver of liability. This means that if businesses charge a parking fee, they will then be responsible for the safety of vehicles.

Owners of malls, hotels, and other similar businesses caught violating the Parking Space Regulation Act of 2018 must pay a P100,000 fine. Chump change, you say? Well, that's P100,000 per customer charged with an overpriced parking fee. What's more, there's a possibility that they'll have their license to operate revoked, too.
