It's pretty difficult settling on a photograph of yourself where you don't look like a burglar on the pull, but at least you don't have to go through the mortifying process of uploading flirty footage to your dating profile.
Tinder has announced that as of next week, they will begin testing a new video feature for users in Canada and Sweden with the intention of evaluating its success before rolling it out to other markets.
According to TechCrunch,"The company says it decided to test videos because it believes videos can show more of users’ personalities, and that can increase people’s chances of getting right-swiped."
They add, "It suggests the videos could be used for showing off your favorite activities—like shooting hoops or cliff jumping. But it’s likely that Tinder users will find other uses for looping videos beyond that."
The videos will only last two seconds and play on a loop. This is supposedly less intimidating for shy users than having to create a full video, however finding something impressive to do in two seconds is a Sisyphean task even for the most creative of us.
Brian Norgard, Chief Product Officer at Tinder commented that, “With the addition of video, users have a new way to express themselves while also gaining key insights into the lives of potential matches. Whether it’s dancing at a concert, doing cartwheels on the beach, or clinking glasses with friends, Loops makes profiles come alive. We anticipate Tinder Loops will lead to even more matches and conversations and look forward to seeing how our users creatively adopt the feature.”
In short, did you really know if you were attracted to someone until you saw them lifting a champagne glass in All Bar One on a forever repeating loop? No, you did not.
