If you're looking for somewhere to go on holiday and you put a lot of stock by the opinion of people who love nothing more than following up a meal, hotel stay or museum visit with a TripAdvisor review then listen up, because the website has announced its Travellers' Choice Destinations awards identifying 10 key locations that its users have top-rated.

London came in second on the list, with other city breaks Paris, Rome, and New York taking third, fourth and fifth place respectively.

These cities all rank highly due to their history, culture and architecture, but it is Bali's pristine beaches, beautiful forests and laid-back pace of life that made the island beat these traditional destinations to the top spot.

The top 10 list is compiled using an algorithm which assesses both the number of reviews and the ratings given to the accommodation, restaurants and attractions in each area.

So if you're looking for somewhere new to visit on your next break, maybe take some inspiration from the full list:

The only thing I love more than spending all of my money on clothes is singing along to musicals at parties. Neither are very good for my social life. When not doing either of these things, you'll most likely find me abroad, posting pictures of my feet on the beach or my cocktail in a pineapple. Not annoying at all.
