8 Films To Stream Now, But Only If Your Screen Can Do Them Justice
Let’s just say you shouldn’t watch these on your phone.

It’s clearer now than ever: There’s nothing quite like the experience of watching movies in theatres. After all, theatres provide a feeling of total immersion—the pure experience of being pulled into a story by a big screen and surround sound. Some movies, especially those with spectacular cinematography and sound design, deserve nothing less.
But cinemas aren’t safe right now, and at the rate things are going, we’ll all be stuck at home for the foreseeable future. This means movie buffs are going to have to approximate the immersive experience of the cinemas from our own homes. We just need the right equipment for it.
Thankfully, if you’ve got a laptop like the new ASUS ZenBook 13 (UX325) and ZenBook 14 (UX425), then it shouldn’t be a problem. The ZenBook 13/14 are ultra-thin, ultra-light (only 1.07 kg and 1.13 kg, respectively), high-performance notebooks that boast of up to 90 percent screen-to-body ratio, achieved with Nano Edge technology. Plus, their audio systems are Harman Kardon-certified, and their battery life goes on for up to 22 hours (in case you want an unplugged movie marathon).
This makes the ZenBook 13/14 perfect for enjoying movies that demand full immersion—the kind of movies that deserve a great screen and superb sound effects. Here are a few such movies:
Blade Runner 2049
This sequel to the sci-fi cult classic has some of the most breathtaking, creatively inspired cinematography of any movie in recent memory. Cinematographer Roger Deakins took home an Academy Award for his work on this movie.
Dunkirk
The everyman’s auteur Christopher Nolan may be known to most for Inception and Interstellar, but he brought the same visual sensibilities to his war epic Dunkirk, which certainly deserves your full attention.
The Revenant
Fun fact: This sprawling story of revenge was shot using only natural light—an incredible feat of cinema, when you consider how damn beautiful it is.
Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral
This historical epic (and its predecessor, Heneral Luna) should go down as a landmark in Filipino cinematography. Its beautiful landscape shots and its impeccable set design deserve the full viewing experience.
Sicario
The beauty of Sicario is in its ability to build tension. This is edge-of-your-seat action like you’ve never seen it, and you can only enjoy that if you’re fully immersed in the movie.
First Man
Give Damien Chazelle, who directed La La Land, the reins to a Neil Armstrong biopic and you’ll get a truly unique view of the space race. First Man has a lot of quiet moments, and really requires you to be fully immersed and emotionally invested.
Birdman Or (The Unexpected Virtue Of Ignorance)
Birdman was edited to feel like a continuous, uncut sequence throughout, and that technique lends itself to its depiction of its main character’s stream of consciousness. It’s a film you can appreciate best if you drown in it.
Gravity
Likewise, Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity deploys a continuous no-cuts effect, and it helps to bring the audience into the story more intimately.
Naturally, every movie deserves to be enjoyed in the best possible way. But these ones are particularly deserving of the full immersive experience that you can get with the ASUS ZenBook 13/14.
Apart from their Nano Edge screen, the ZenBook 13/14 are also ultra-light, ergonomic, and have complete I/O ports for accessibility. Also, because they’re powerful laptops, they easily output to a 60Hz 4K display, in case you’d like to hook up to a TV. They really are ideal for home entertainment.
If you’re looking to snag one now, you’re in luck. The ZenBook 13/14 are part of ASUS’ “Gear Up for the New Normal” back-to-school promo—a collaboration with Globe at Home. Every purchase of the 13/14 (which both retail for P54,995) until August 31 comes with a free bundle, including a Globe at Home Prepaid Wi-Fi router, as well as a Lazada e-voucher for ASUS products on select official stores worth up to P5,000.
