No Franchise? No Problem. ABS-CBN Relaunches iWant TFC

Is this the new Netflix?

ABS-CBN has relaunched its streaming app into iWant TFC, promising a better viewing experience as it goes deeper into digital and other platforms outside of its former free TV business.

Available on Apple and Android devices, Roku, Chromecast and Airplay, iWant TFC combines two of ABS-CBN's most popular brand names -- iWant and TFC or The Filipino Channel.

Free subscribers can access 500 movies, the last seven episodes of currently airing shows, three live channels (Kapamilya Channel, TeleRadyo and Knowledge Channel), 26 drama series with different titles per month. They can watch with ads for up to one device per month.

After the one-month free trial, subscribers can choose between a basic P59 per month plan or a premium plan at P119 per month. We tried signing into iWant TFC app on iOS using an Apple ID and it was much easier than the old iWant app.

ABS-CBN has been off the air since May and in July, a House of Representatives panel denied its petition for a new franchise. It has since accelerated its digital pivot and found a new free TV home on the rebranded UHF channel A2Z.

Even before the franchise denial, CEO Carlo Katigbak had pushed for ABS-CBN's push into the digital space. Aside from iWant, it also pioneered the digital TV service in the country with ABS-CBN TVplus.
