Long after On The Job was first released in 2013, it remains one of the benchmarks for the action genre in Filipino cinema. Director Erik Matti has since gone on to make a crime thriller (Honor Thy Father, 2015) and horror films (Kubot: The Aswang Chronicles, 2014; and Seklusyon, 2016), but will be back in action in 2018 with Buy Bust.

The much-awaited film stars Anne Curtis-Smith in her first-ever action movie, for which she had to undergo intensive martial arts training. But that’s just a small part of the huge production:

Curtis-Smith will be starring alongside Filipino-American mixed martial artist and current ONE heavyweight champion, Brandon Vera. Based on the first trailer, which just dropped this week, it looks like they’ll be playing PDEA agents carrying out a buy-bust mission before things go awry:

It’s already looking like a visual joyride through a neon-lit Manila slum area, with some pretty authentic action sequences—perhaps in the mold of Denis Villeneuve’s Sicario. Also, and appropriately, there seems to be an undercurrent of commentary on the war on drugs and its inevitable collateral damage.

Buy Bust also stars Nonie Buencamino, Joross Gamboa, Alex Calleja, and AJ Muhlach. It’s also scored by Esquire Philippines’ former editor-in-chief, Erwin Romulo.

Buy Bust will open soon in Philippine cinemas. For more updates, check out the official Reality Entertainment Facebook page.
