Ant-Man 4 Is Already in Talks

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantamania is just days away from its international premiere, but Marvel Studios is already talking about Ant-Man 4. Because who could resist giving Paul Rudd even more screen time?

In Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantamania, Scott Lang (Rudd) and his daughter Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton) will face off with Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors), the multiversal, time-traveling mega-villain of Phase 5. Quantumania will dive deep into the quantum realm and the role of the multiverse in Kevin Feige’s master plan, so it makes sense that a potential fourth film could spring forth from Ant-Man’s unique connections to the quantum realm.

"We're already thinking about it," said Ant-Man producer Stephen Broussard to ComicBook.com. "It's like, every movie's its own battle and you bear the scars of making it and wanting to make it great. But hope springs eternal and you start to put yourself back together after the journey of making the movie. You're like, 'Yeah, what if we did X and what if we did Y?' Like the wheels start turning, you can't help yourself. I don't want to say anything about specifically what those are, but yeah, you can't help yourself. Those conversations, those whispers have already started to happen between myself and [Ant-Man series director] Peyton [Reed] and [Marvel Studios president] Kevin [Feige]."

From the trailer alone, we can already tell that Quantumania will pack a punch. If Phase 4 centered on the infinity stones, then Phase 5 will focus on an entity or plot of similar gravity—and we’d bet our money that it will be revealed in Quantumania. Ant-Man 3 is the first film of Phase 5, which will set the foundations for Phase 6.

In Feige’s Marvel master plan, Phase 6 will end with two ensemble films that will pit Avengers against, we believe, Kang. The two ensemble films are titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, which will be released in 2025 and 2026, respectively. That’s years away, but we know just how much Disney and Marvel love to plan in advance.

If Ant-Man 4 does happen, it would probably be incorporated before the ensemble films in Phase 6, or even in Phase 7 and beyond. The real question is whether Paul Rudd will return for a potential Ant-Man 4. Marvel’s made no secret of how their old guard is paving the way for a new generation of heroes. Hawkeye’s got Kate Bishop, Doctor Strange is mentoring America Chavez, and even Scott Lang has Cassie Lang as a potential successor.

The younger Lang is known as the hero Stature in the Marvel Comics. A member of the Young Avengers, Stature has the same powers as her father. If Rudd doesn’t return for Ant-Man 4, Cassie Lang might step up the plate.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantamania will premiere in the Philippines on February 15. Rudd and Newton star alongside Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, and Michelle Pfeiffer.
