The Trailer For the Anton Yelchin Documentary Is a Heartbreaking Look at the Life of the Late Actor
Best known for playing Pavel Chekov in the Star Trek reboot films, Anton Yelchin's career was beginning to take off when he died suddenly at the age of 27 in a freak accident in 2016. In June of that year, Yelchin was found pinned between his Jeep Grand Cherokee and a fence outside of his home.
Yelchin was a promising and prolific young actor, musician, and photographer—who has appeared in a number of films posthumously. His life and artistry is celebrated in the upcoming new documentary Love, Antosha, directed by Garret Price.
The film includes interviews with Chris Pine, Jennifer Lawrence, Zachary Quinto, Jodie Foster, Kristen Stewart, Frank Langella, J.J. Abrams, William Dafoe, and more. As the film description reads:
From a prolific career in film and television, Anton Yelchin left an indelible legacy as an actor. Through his journals and other writings, his photography, the original music he wrote, and interviews with his family, friends, and colleagues, this film looks not just at Anton’s impressive career, but at a broader portrait of the man. Born in the former Soviet Union to a family of artists, Anton and his parents came to the U.S. when he was six months old. He started acting at nine. He had a genuine curiosity and love for people, for art, and for family. And a willingness to explore, and be open with, the darker parts of himself. Love, Antosha explores his successes and his struggles, and let’s viewers get to know this extraordinary person the world was cheated from seeing grow old.
Yelchin's parents reached a settlement with the makers of the Jeep Grand Cherokee earlier this year. The model was among 1.1 million vehicles recalled two months before Yelchin's death. "Anton Yelchin was crushed and lingered alive for some time, trapped and suffocating until his death," the lawsuit stated, which alleged that faulty gear selectors were the cause of the actor's death.
The film is due out on August 2.
